A few months ago I had a Korean homestay who stayed with me for a weekend. When we took her back to school she gave me this paper ball.
I thought it was so cool! I went home and tried to find what it is called and how to make it. I found that it is called a Kusudama. It is made up of about 40 little flowers traditionally sewn or if you are lazy like me glued together in rings of 3-8-10-10-8-3. It takes a while to makeand the flowers are a little bit tricky but once you get the hang of it they are easy.
I made a purple one for my boyfriend and I am now making one for my friend to put on his christmas tree. He requested it in assorted colours So I started with the flowers.
This is the first ring of 10 of the second half. Still drying so I had to be careful when taking the picture.
I just finished the second half and glued it together. I couldn't find enough string to create a tassel so I made a little loops that will allow my friend to put it on his christmas tree.
These are so much fun to make and they make great presents! It takes a little while to get the hang of it but after a while it is easy. I think the traditional method is to use string to tie the rings together but I cheat and use glue. If you are bored or want a challenge and try something new then find a tutorial and try it. Have fun!
